Hey guys I’m enjoying the retro pie, but I’ve recently hit a brick wall. I updated my Raspberry Pi 3 beta through the actual Pi and I’ve been trying to disable hotkeys, specifically the Select + X button that calls up the menu, select + left and right D pad does that changes slots and also select + B button to reset. I have been racking my brain trying to disable these through the retroarch. cfg file. I also used the emulation station menu running the setup script to try to disable it but that didn’t have any effect . Is there any other place that the hotkeys are enabled that I don’t know about? What specific line of text in the. Cfg file should I be looking for? I only want to enable load and save states with select and the L & R buttons and exit emulator by pressing start and select. I’ve got the Buffalo controller and I’m trying just about everything…stayed up way too late last night trying to figure this out lol. I am so close to having the perfect setup that I want. Any help would be great thank you very much!

Are you using the new emulation station input function? If so it outputs an autoconfig file here: /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/yourgamepad.cfg and that’s where you’ll want to change it. You can also check out the hotkey section on this page:

I don’t have any answers, but I’m sorry to hear it’s stopped working. You’ve dug deeper into your issue that I’m sure most would have, so perhaps open an Issue ticket on the RP Github page if you have no luck getting answer here?

I got mine working after a few tries in the Global options screen. Still want to tweak it a bit so I can play games without using the keyboard to insert quarters, etc..
Player 2 keyboard controls on pifba don't work
Hey. I’m sure this has come up before, but I need some help in enabling player 2 controls on the keyboard.
I have set the controls in the fba2x.cfg file but I’m not sure on how one goes about enabling two players on the keyboard.
(I have one of those IPAC 2 plugged in to my pi via an adapter. I have everything else working fine)
I swapped the configs around and 1p worked with my 2p buttons so I know its not my setup.
Do I have to compile a different version of the emulator somewhere? If so how do I go about that?

That’s a good idea I may do that.

Don’t worry. I figured it out:
What you need to do is replace the pifba binary with one that has 2p keyboard enabled.
Easiest way to do this is to gain root, then use WinSCP to copy the file over and change permissions.
In order to do that, remotely connect to the pi via PuTTY then put in this line:
sudo passwd root
Then set the password to something you remember like “raspberry”
Once you do that, fire up WinSCP and change your login to root and then the new password.
Navigate to the /opt/retropie/emulators/pifba folder
Now download the patched binary from a pifba fork like in this link:
https://github.com/ian57/Raspicade-configuration-files/blob/master/pifba/fba2x
Rename the old fba2x file to something like fba2x.backup and then copy the binary you just downloaded over (which you can do now since you are in root).
Now the final step is to right click the new fba2x binary, go to properties, and change the permissions. You want to click all the X boxes so they have a tick in them. Press OK and now change keyboard keys in the fba2x.cfg file (located at: /opt/retropie/configs/fba/) to whatever you have them programmed as on your IPAC, using this link as a guide:
http://www.libsdl.org/release/SDL-1.2.15/include/SDL_keysym.h
And save it, then launch pifba and voila: 2p keyboard controls work!
Reply To: Stumped on how to remove hotkeys
Thanks for replying! I figured it out! I had the Retroarch RGUI Saving settings to ‘Configuration Per-Core’ set to On and that was causing the hotkeys to revert back to default settings per emulator apparently. I did a fresh reinstall and when I turned this on, that’s when I ran into problems! Everything is good now. Thanks again for helping, I can finally finish up this setup!

xbox 360 wireless button re-assignment for lr-PCSX-reARMed
So – I have most things working fine, but one thing that is really stumping me is re-assigning the X / Y / A / B buttons on the xbox 360 wireless controller for the PSX (I would obviously like to map them the same as a playstation controller in terms of orientation)
However! no matter what version of googled suggestions I try as far as editing the /opt/pi/configs/psx/retroarch.cfg it makes no difference. I also can’t really find any specific information to the latest version of lr-pcsx-rearmed (binary or source)
any ideas? It’s driving me a bit mad.

I’m having the same issue and can’t figure out how to fix it.
Reply To: MAME recognises Qanba N1 buttons but not joystick
Hi Nolageek,
thanks a ton for your response!
I installed the newest version of Retropie (RC1) and it still doesn’t work for me. Could you please let me know what exactly you did? My problem is that from within the MAME (mame4all to be precise) options menu that you access with the tab button, the joystick doesn’t get create any response. The buttons of the Qanba N1 work and so does the iBuffalo.
Again, any hints will be greatly appreciated!
Best,
Frez

Why it is detected as keyboard?
I can’t configure it in the “configure retroarch keyboard/joystick” menu

Mini-Pac Not Working
As the title states, i can not get the mini pac working with retropie, not in ES or retroarch. help

I would also like to mention that ES and the pi itself sees the Mini-Emu but when i press a button it does not recognize any button presses.
Mupen CGF select
Hi everyone,
First forum post and new user here. It’s been a long journey for me to get a raspberry Pi and also went through all the hoops before finally settling on retropie as my chosen permenant install
Out of the box 3.0 beta has been great! With just one little hitch, and that’s the funky N64 controller mapping one has to do (otherwise I’d not be posting) Is it possible to select a different Mupen cfg file to run with a chosen rom the same way as one can select other setup options by pressing x?
The setup menu is such a great feature at present, and i just feel adding custom configs would be something I’d like to tinker with (or feature suggest even).
Thanks a heap for your patience!
Select+triangle doesnt work to open Retroarch menu after RC1 update
Any ideas how to get this to work? It was really helpful being able to enter the menu with select+triangle. Thanks!

Reply To: PS3 Controller no longer working in Mame4All after RC1 update
I thought there might be a setting kind of like in AdvanceMame that blewis87 pointed out that required you to:
“Change device_joystick auto to device_joystick raw in the .rc config file.”
So far I can not seem to find any like switch for Mame4All though. Any one have any ideas?
Reply To: ATARI 2600 player 2 not recognized
I’m having this same exact issue but I’m on a Raspberry Pi 2 with version 3.0 RC1. Player 2 works in the other emulators I’ve tried, such as NES, SNES, and Genesis. I’m very new to RetroPie, so I’ve hit the end of my limited knowledge. I’ve watched several of Floob’s Youtube videos on controller configuration, have followed the steps and checked configuration files, and everything seems in order yet player 2 doesn’t work in Atari 2600.
Anyone have any ideas?
